Applications

The CCBGAP program is open to any Xavier University undergraduate students interested in pursuing graduate study in chemistry or chemical biology.  The deadline to apply is November 26, 2024.  Note that we have recently expanded our program to also invite applications from senior students who are taking a gap year and considering graduate school, but have not yet applied to graduate programs.

All prospective applicants to the CCBGAP summer program must…

  1. have junior or senior standing at Xavier University (sophomores may also be considered)
  2. hold a grade-point average of at least 3.0;
  3. agree to complete the following XU courses prior to the start of the summer:
    • organic chemistry and
    • one upper division course, such as inorganic or physical chemistry

The CCBGAP program application consists of….

  1. the web form at this link to be filled out by the applicant
  2. a one-page statement of purpose that describes the applicant’s research interests, experience, and post-baccalaureate aspirations. To help track applications, please name this file ccbgap_lastname_application. 
  3. college transcripts (unofficial transcripts are OK). To help track applications, please name this file ccbgap_lastname_transcript.
  4. two letters of recommendation (one from a faculty member in Chemistry)

Review of applications for senior student applicants will begin on November 27, 2024. For full consideration, all materials should be received by November 26, 2024.

All applications will be reviewed by committee of UC Davis faculty in consultation with faculty from Xavier University, with finalists potentially interviewed by Zoom. Applicants will be selected based on criteria including interest and motivation to pursue research, strength of their academic record and recommendation letters, and connection to research interests to CCB-GAP

Applicants will be notified of their status starting within 2 weeks of application deadline.
